People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has revealed that the late former Cabinet Minister and Lugari MP, Cyrus Jirongo, had serious concerns about his personal safety in the weeks and months before his death.
Her remarks, made during Jirongo’s farewell ceremony, have raised fresh questions and renewed public interest in the circumstances surrounding his passing.
Speaking on Saturday, December 7, Karua told mourners that Jirongo was not at ease about his security and had already started making plans to protect himself better.
According to her, these efforts were still ongoing when his life was suddenly cut short.
“I want to say something that has not been said,” Karua told the gathering. “Cyrus had concerns about his safety, and he was actually making arrangements to better secure himself.”
Her words were met with silence and deep reflection from mourners, many of whom are still struggling to come to terms with the loss.
Karua explained that Jirongo was a man who paid attention to his surroundings and did not ignore warning signs.
She said his decision to improve his security showed that he felt exposed and wanted to take control of his safety. However, fate intervened before those plans could be completed.
The PLP leader added that the questions surrounding Jirongo’s death are unlikely to fade unless authorities provide clear and convincing answers.
She noted that speculation will continue to grow if investigations are not thorough and transparent.
According to Karua, the government has a duty not only to Jirongo’s family but also to the country to ensure that the truth is known.
She said that unresolved doubts only deepen pain and mistrust, especially when a prominent public figure dies under unclear circumstances.
Family members and close friends of Jirongo have previously described him as cautious in his final days, though few details had been shared publicly.
Karua’s statement is the clearest indication yet that his concerns were serious and ongoing.
