Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has announced that he met with top leaders of the United Opposition to discuss how they can strengthen the coalition and push for better governance in the country.

Matiang’i said the meeting brought together leaders from different parties who share the same goal of restoring integrity, accountability, and responsible leadership.

According to him, the discussions were held with Martha Karua of the PLP, Peter Munya of the PNU, Ukur Yatani of the UPIA, Lenny Kivuti of the DEP, and James Magara of the PDP. United Opposition spokesperson Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi also joined the talks.

Matiang’i described the meeting as productive, noting that everyone present was focused on finding ways to unite their efforts and build a stronger, more organized coalition.

During the meeting, the leaders reportedly exchanged ideas on how to improve coordination among their parties and how to make the Opposition more effective in holding the government accountable.

Matiang’i said the discussions touched on practical steps the coalition needs to take to ensure their message reaches all Kenyans, especially those who feel unheard or dissatisfied with current leadership.

He added that the leaders agreed on the importance of presenting a united front, saying this is the only way to earn the trust of citizens who are looking for credible alternatives.
They also emphasized the need to demonstrate leadership principles such as honesty, courage, fairness, and respect for democratic institutions.

Matiang’i noted that the talks are part of a broader plan to rebuild the country’s political space by promoting transparency and responsible governance.
