President William Ruto has unveiled an ambitious plan to upgrade and modernise key roads in Nairobi, including a complete rebuild and beautification of the busy corridor from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to ABC Place.

The announcement was made during the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo National Stadium on Friday, December 12, 2025.

The President said the project is part of a broader effort to reduce traffic congestion and give the capital a modern, world-class appearance.

He explained that several road projects across the city, which had stalled due to contractors abandoning sites, have now resumed following government intervention.

The move aims to restore confidence in public infrastructure projects and ensure timely completion.

“Roads such as Valley Road, Ngong Road, and Haile Selassie Avenue are now back on track after delays that have caused inconvenience to motorists and disrupted businesses for months,” President Ruto said.

He noted that the government actively engaged the contractors to ensure work resumed promptly, prioritising efficiency, quality, and safety for residents and road users.

According to the President, the improvements will not only enhance traffic flow but also contribute to Nairobi’s overall urban development.

The rebuilt roads will feature modern design elements, improved pedestrian pathways, proper drainage systems, and aesthetic landscaping to create a more attractive and functional cityscape.

Ruto emphasised that Nairobi, as the country’s economic hub, requires reliable and modern infrastructure to support business growth, ease the movement of goods and people, and improve quality of life for its residents.

The completion of these projects, he said, is expected to significantly reduce travel time and make commuting safer for all road users.
