In his remarks, the President highlighted Raila’s lifelong dedication to the people and his role in shaping the country’s democratic journey.
According to President Ruto, Raila’s resolve, alongside the determination of Kenya’s forefathers, played a key role in the creation of the 2010 Constitution.
He described the Constitution as a landmark achievement that restored the sovereignty of the people, limited the power of leadership, and enshrined fundamental rights for all citizens.
It also introduced devolved governance, bringing authority closer to local communities and ensuring that decisions affecting citizens are made at the grassroots level.
“May his spirit continue to guide our nation forward,” President Ruto said, emphasising that Raila’s commitment to justice, equality, and democracy remains an example for all Kenyans.
He noted that the 2010 Constitution is more than a legal document; it is a symbol of collective struggle, sacrifice, and the fight for a better future for every Kenyan.
The President pointed out that Raila Odinga dedicated his life to public service, often standing firm in the face of challenges to defend democracy and uphold the rights of citizens.
His leadership, Ruto said, showed that progress comes through persistence, courage, and a vision for a fair and inclusive nation.
President Ruto urged Kenyans to honour Raila’s legacy by continuing to uphold the values he fought for.
This, he said, means protecting constitutional rights, participating in governance, and ensuring that development reaches all corners of the country.
Raila’s vision, he added, should inspire both leaders and citizens to work together to build a united and prosperous Kenya.
