President William Ruto has strongly defended the controversial Kenya–US health partnership, insisting that the country cannot be easily deceived or short-changed in such an agreement.

Speaking during a recent public address, the President dismissed critics who claim the deal puts Kenya at a disadvantage, saying such arguments underestimate the intelligence and capacity of the Kenyan government.

“For anybody to believe that we can be short-changed, they are actually telling us that we are not very intelligent,” President Ruto said, adding that his administration has fully evaluated the agreement and ensured it will benefit the country’s health sector.

The President explained that the government entered the deal after months of consultations, technical reviews, and engagement with experts in health, finance, and international partnerships.

He insisted that Kenya is not a passive participant but an equal partner with its own terms, expectations, and areas of oversight.

Ruto noted that the agreement aims to strengthen Kenya’s health system through better technology, improved training, partnerships with global medical institutions, and investments in facilities.

He said these benefits will help address long-standing challenges and improve service delivery across the country.

Critics have raised concerns over transparency, data protection, and the overall impact of the deal on national sovereignty.

But President Ruto assured the public that safeguards are built into the agreement, and nothing has been signed that compromises Kenya’s independence or exposes citizens to harm.

He emphasized that his administration cannot be pressured or misled into signing deals that do not serve the country’s interests.

According to him, the partnership is part of a broader plan to modernize the health sector and improve access to quality care.
