Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has cautioned the first group of Kenyan police officers returning from the 18-month peacekeeping mission in Haiti to handle their newfound recognition and influence with care.

Speaking during their official reception at Embakasi A Campus, Murkomen told the 230 officers that their service abroad has not only elevated Kenya’s reputation but also raised their personal profiles back home.

The officers, who served under the Multinational Security Support Mission, were praised for their bravery, discipline, and professionalism while operating in a highly challenging environment marked by gang violence and political instability.

Murkomen said their success had earned them admiration across the country and strengthened the public’s confidence in Kenyan security forces.

However, he reminded them that such honour also comes with responsibilities.

Murkomen cautioned that the combination of recognition, authority, money, and free time can easily tempt officers to misuse their influence if they are not careful.

He urged them to remain grounded, maintain discipline, and uphold the values that guided their work in Haiti.

The CS stressed that their mission had given them not just global exposure but also valuable experience that can greatly improve policing in Kenya.

He encouraged the officers to apply the skills they gained especially in managing high-risk operations and community protection to their local assignments.

Murkomen also warned them against falling into behaviour that could tarnish the reputation they have worked so hard to build.

He said the country is watching them closely, and Kenyans expect them to continue demonstrating the same professionalism they displayed abroad.
