Former presidential economic adviser Moses Kuria has once again stirred political debate after sharing a cryptic message on his X account that many interpret as a signal of shifting loyalties within Mt Kenya politics.

Kuria posted the words “Eyes on the Ball” alongside a photo of himself with Juja MP George Koimburi and Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji.

The image immediately drew attention, coming shortly after Koimburi publicly ditched former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp and declared support for President William Ruto.

The timing of the post has fueled speculation that Kuria is playing a behind-the-scenes role in consolidating Mt Kenya leaders around Ruto ahead of 2027.

Koimburi was previously viewed as a close ally of Gachagua, making his defection a significant political blow to the former DP’s efforts to maintain influence in the region.

Observers note that Kuria has lately been a familiar face at Ruto’s public functions.

He recently attended the Nyota Programme launch in Nyeri, an event widely seen as part of the government’s renewed charm offensive in Mt Kenya.

His consistent presence at such rallies has strengthened perceptions that he is firmly back in Ruto’s political orbit.

The inclusion of Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji in Kuria’s photo has added another layer of intrigue.

Analysts interpret the post as a subtle projection that Mukunji could be the next Mt Kenya politician to be persuaded into Ruto’s camp.

While Mukunji has not publicly declared any shift, the symbolism of the image has kept political circles buzzing.

Critics argue that Kuria’s actions point to a deliberate strategy to fragment the Mt Kenya bloc, weakening Gachagua while strengthening Ruto’s foothold in the region.

Supporters, however, view it as normal political realignment driven by development interests and proximity to power.

As Mt Kenya politics continue to evolve, Kuria’s “Eyes on the Ball” message suggests that the contest for regional influence is far from over—and that more defections could still be in the offing.
