Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has dismissed claims that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) can be taken over by outside forces, saying attempts to weaken the party have failed both locally and abroad.

Speaking firmly, Junet said ODM has faced many challenges over the years but has remained strong because of its loyal members and clear values.

Junet claimed that some individuals first tried to hijack the party from within.

According to him, these efforts involved sowing divisions among members and creating confusion around the party’s leadership and direction.

However, he said those plans did not succeed because ODM members stood united and protected the party’s core principles.

He added that after failing internally, the same group allegedly shifted their efforts outside the country.

Junet said they have now gone “overseas” in a bid to use former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo to influence or interfere with ODM’s internal affairs.

He described this move as desperate and misguided, insisting that ODM cannot be controlled through external pressure or foreign influence.

Junet emphasized that ODM is a home-grown political movement built by Kenyans for Kenyans.

He said the party’s decisions are made by its members through established structures, not by individuals operating behind the scenes or from foreign capitals.

In his view, dragging respected international figures into local party politics is wrong and shows a lack of respect for ODM supporters.

The outspoken MP also defended ODM leader Raila Odinga, often referred to by supporters as “the old man,” saying he is fully capable of making independent decisions.

Junet noted pointedly that Raila does not need handlers or translators to understand Kenyan politics, nor can he be manipulated by outsiders.
