Protests broke out in Siakago Market as residents and traders poured into the streets to express their frustration with poor service delivery.

The crowd was angry over sub-standard works, stalled projects, and what they describe as years of neglect by the county government.

The demonstrations were directed at Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire’s administration. Locals said they have endured repeated promises from leaders, but very little has changed.

They claimed that despite the county receiving funds for development, the town continues to suffer from poor roads, lack of clean water, and other basic needs.

Siakago is the headquarters of Mbeere North Constituency, but residents say the town does not match the status of an administrative centre in modern Kenya.

They pointed out that basic infrastructure expected in such a town is missing.

Roads remain dusty and full of potholes, drainage systems are weak, and public spaces are not well maintained.

Traders in the market also complained about poor sanitation and the lack of proper market facilities.

The protesters said they are tired of empty promises and want action.

They accused the county leadership of ignoring the needs of Siakago residents while focusing on other areas.

Many residents said they feel forgotten and left behind, even though the town plays a key role in the region.

Some traders said their businesses have been affected because customers avoid the market due to the poor conditions.

Others said the stalled projects have caused losses, as they had expected improvements that never materialized.

Residents also raised concerns about stalled construction works that have remained incomplete for months, leaving the town looking neglected and unsafe.
