High Court on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, heard new evidence in the murder case of socialite Starlet Wahu, as a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer detailed the items recovered from the short-stay apartment in South B where she was killed.

John Matara, the accused, is charged with murdering Wahu on January 3, 2024, at Papino’s apartment. He pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared in court on February 2, 2024.

Testifying before Milimani Judge Alexander Muteti, investigating officer Alex Cholera gave a detailed account of the scene when he arrived at the apartment.

“My lord, we found the entire house messed up; among the things that I noticed were some syringes and tablets, of which some had been swallowed,” Officer Cholera told the court.

He explained that the deceased, Starlet Wahu , was found lying in a pool of blood inside the room, and the house had blood stains in several areas, indicating a violent struggle.

The officer said the investigation revealed multiple items of interest, including eight syringes and tablets suspected to have been consumed by the deceased.

Further, Officer Cholera presented other items recovered from the house.

These included an empty Hunters whisky bottle, a black panty and bra set, and a pair of black open ladies’ heel shoes, which are believed to have belonged to Wahu.

The detective added that these items were carefully documented as exhibits.

The officer also revealed that both used and unused condoms were found in the apartment.

He explained that these were collected as part of the investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding Wahu’s death and to help determine whether other individuals were involved in the events leading to the murder.

In addition to the items, the DCI detective said he collected blood swabs from the scene.

He explained that one swab was taken from inside the room where Wahu’s body was found, while another was taken from outside the room.

The blood evidence, he said, would assist forensic experts in determining how the incident unfolded and could provide clues about the accused and any possible struggle that occurred.

The court was shown exhibits of all the collected items, which will be used as evidence in the ongoing trial.

Officer Cholera emphasised the importance of carefully documenting each item to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

Legal experts following the case note that detailed testimonies like that of Officer Cholera are crucial in building the prosecution’s case, as they provide a clear picture of the crime scene and the events that occurred before and after Wahu’s death.
