Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has broken his silence following the party’s defeat in the recently concluded Kabras West by-election.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms on Monday, March 2, 2026, Malala expressed gratitude to the residents of Kabras West for the “overwhelming support” shown to the party and its candidates during the electoral process.

Despite finishing second, he emphasized that the engagement and courage of the voters remain the true highlight of the election.

“On behalf of myself, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), and our party leader H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, I wish to extend my deepest and most sincere gratitude for the incredible support witnessed during the just-concluded by-election.

While the results place us in second position, the true story of this election is not found in the final tally, but in the courage of the voters,” Malala stated.

He noted that the party remains committed to the principles of democracy and values every citizen who came out to exercise their right to vote.

Malala stressed that political engagement goes beyond winning or losing; it is about listening to the people, understanding their needs, and building trust for the future.

According to Malala, the by-election demonstrated the growing support for DCP across various communities, even as the party continues to compete with more established political entities.

He described the outcome as a step toward consolidating the party’s influence and presence in Western Kenya.

Malala also urged the residents of Kabras West to continue engaging with the DCP and its programs, noting that their voices are essential in shaping the party’s policies and initiatives.

He reiterated the party’s commitment to championing issues that matter to citizens, including economic empowerment, social development, and inclusive governance.

While acknowledging the disappointment of the electoral outcome, Malala expressed optimism that the lessons learned during the campaign would strengthen the party in future contests.

He emphasized the need to remain united, organized, and responsive to community needs.

The DCP deputy leader’s message also highlighted the importance of peaceful and fair elections.

He called on political actors to respect the democratic process, maintain harmony among residents, and focus on development rather than political rivalry.
