Nyakera explained that the group arrived suddenly and began causing chaos at the hotel.
He said the attackers allegedly assaulted workers and even tied up a female security guard before proceeding to vandalise property within the compound.
The politician said he was on the premises at the time of the incident and rushed outside after hearing noise and commotion from the hotel compound.
He claimed that when he realised the situation was getting out of control, he fired two shots into the air in an attempt to scare away the attackers.
“At 5 a.m. today, over 100 goons attacked my hotel in Kisumu, damaging property and injuring our staff, including tying up the security lady.
Upon hearing the commotion, I quickly went after them, shooting twice in the air as they fled,” Nyakera said.
He alleged that the individuals behind the attack could have been sent by his political rivals, although he did not name anyone directly.
Nyakera insisted that the raid appeared to be well organised, suggesting that the attackers may have had a specific motive.
The former PS further claimed that despite calling the area Officer Commanding Station (OCS) to request immediate assistance, police officers did not respond quickly to the distress call.
According to him, an hour passed without any backup arriving at the hotel.
Frustrated by the delay, Nyakera said he sent a message to the police officer warning that he would take further action if anyone else attempted to enter his property without permission.
“I called the OCS and asked for backup, but an hour later, when no backup was forthcoming, I sent him a message that I intend to shoot anyone stepping into my property.
I hope he shared the message in their security WhatsApp group,” he stated.
