Speaking during a morning radio interview on Thursday, March 5, 2026, the Siaya Governor said the issue is sensitive and that he must be careful with his words out of respect for Raila’s family.
However, he indicated that there are still unanswered questions about how the former Prime Minister ended up travelling abroad for treatment.
“I said this with a heavy heart, and I must be sensitive to the feelings of the family. So I would not say as much as I think I should say,” Orengo explained during the interview.
Despite his caution, the governor hinted that he believes the late leader did not willingly agree to travel to India.
According to him, the circumstances surrounding the trip remain unclear and deserve closer examination.
“But I’m saying if you look at the circumstances in which Raila was evacuated from Kenya, he didn’t go to India willingly,” Orengo said.
The governor went further to suggest that the situation may have involved pressure from individuals who accompanied Raila during the trip.
He stated that there are certain people whose actions he believes should be questioned.
“I think he was almost forced to go to India and to a particular institution with the company of certain individuals who I have a lot of questions to raise about,” he added.
Orengo did not name the individuals he was referring to, but he hinted that he may speak more openly about the matter at a later time.
He said the moment may come when he feels it is appropriate to share more details about what he believes happened.
For now, he maintained that the issue must be handled with sensitivity, especially because the Odinga family is still mourning the loss of their loved one.
The governor said it is important that public discussion around the matter remains respectful.
His remarks are likely to spark debate among political leaders and members of the public who have closely followed Raila’s final days.
The former Prime Minister was one of Kenya’s most influential political figures, and his death has continued to attract national attention.
