According to the union, these matters had remained unresolved for a long time, prompting the formal notice as a way of pushing for action.
“Following the strike notice issued on 4th February 2026, we engaged the county government of Trans Nzoia in negotiations led by H.E. Governor George Natembeya.
We are pleased to update our members and the public that we have reached a firm agreement on the following…,” part of Atellah’s statement read.
The union explained that the discussions were detailed and focused on practical solutions.
Among the key areas addressed were career progression for doctors, confirmation of employment terms, and improvement of working conditions in public health facilities.
KMPDU said the agreement reflects commitments made by the county government to resolve these long-standing issues within agreed timelines.
Doctors in Trans Nzoia had previously expressed frustration over stalled promotions and what they described as unfair treatment in employment matters.
Some had also raised concerns about staff shortages and the pressure placed on available medical personnel.
The union argued that improving the welfare of doctors is directly linked to better healthcare services for residents.
Governor Natembeya’s involvement in the negotiations was highlighted as a positive step toward restoring trust between health workers and the county administration.
The union noted that open dialogue and willingness to listen played a key role in reaching the agreement.
KMPDU assured its members that it will continue monitoring the implementation of the agreed terms to ensure promises are fulfilled.
The union also thanked doctors for remaining united and patient throughout the negotiation period.
