Prepare for Power Blackout If You Live In These Areas, KPLC Announces

Kenya Power has announced a planned power outage affecting parts of 13 counties on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. 

The utility company said the blackout is part of routine network maintenance aimed at improving service reliability. 

Customers are advised to make alternative arrangements as the electricity interruption may affect homes, businesses, and institutions.

In Nairobi County, the outage will impact parts of Kamukunji in the Nairobi North area from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. 

Affected locations include Jua Kali, Shauri Moyo, Muthurwa Primary School, Gikomba, Gikomba Social Hall, the District Officer’s Office in Gikomba, Family Bank Gikomba Branch, Co-operative Bank Gikomba Branch, BBS Mall, Shell Petrol Station, Ismariot Hotel, Nomad Hotel, Eastleigh High School, Pumwani Boys High School, Starehe Boys Centre, and parts of General Waruinge Street. 

Parts of Mathare and surrounding neighborhoods will also experience outages during the same hours.

In Kiambu County, power will be off in Rironi and Thamanda from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Areas affected include Rironi, Kagia, Kanduma, Ngecha, Gitangu, Thamanda, Kerwa, Muguga, Gatonye, Kamuguga, Universal, and Zambezi.

In Kiambaa, including Kiambaa Market and Senior Chief Koinange High School, the outage will last the same hours.

Other affected areas include Waguthu, Kiambaa Primary and Secondary Schools, Willopark Apartments, Mugumoini Primary School, Raini Water Pump, Valentine Growers, Shangilia, Madira, Mulele, Induro, Kereda, and BI Water.

In Nyeri County, residents will experience power interruptions from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm in areas such as Kamune Market, Geitwa Market, Iruri Market, Kieni, Riakiberu Coffee Factory, Kaharo, Thuita, Githanga Dispensary, Githanga Secondary School, Gachirago Coffee Factory, Karugiro Coffee Factory, Wambugu Mucheru, and Gaithunu.

Kirinyaga County will also be affected during the same hours. Areas included in the blackout are Kagio Town, Kahiro Village, Kinyaga Village, Kianjogu Village, Kandongu Market, Kiamikuyu Village, and Gitooini Village.

Kenya Power urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to plan ahead.

Customers are advised to switch off electrical appliances to avoid damage when power is restored.

Businesses are encouraged to adjust operations, and households are advised to secure food and water supply where possible.

The company said the maintenance is necessary to strengthen the electricity network and reduce future outages.

Kenya Power reassured the public that all efforts will be made to complete the work within the scheduled hours.

The planned blackout affects households, schools, banks, businesses, and public facilities across multiple counties.

The utility company thanked the public for their patience and understanding as the maintenance exercise is carried out.
