President William Ruto has signed three important laws that are expected to bring major changes to Kenya’s coffee sector and improve key government services.

The new laws include the Coffee Act, the Miscellaneous Fees Amendment Act, and the Meteorology Act.

Together, these laws introduce new structures and reforms aimed at improving regulation, boosting productivity, and strengthening public institutions.

One of the most significant outcomes of the new legislation is the creation of the Coffee Board ofKenya.

The board will be responsible for overseeing the country’s coffee industry, ensuring better coordination among farmers, processors, marketers, and exporters.

The government believes that the board will play a crucial role in restoring the strength of Kenya’s coffee sector, which has faced many challenges over the years.

Coffee farming has long been one of Kenya’s most important agricultural activities, supporting thousands of farmers across the country.

However, issues such as low earnings, poor management, and weak market structures have affected the industry.

With the new Coffee Act in place, the government hopes to introduce better policies and regulations that will protect farmers and improve the quality and value of Kenyan coffee in the global market.

The establishment of the Coffee Board of Kenya is expected to help farmers receive fair prices for their produce while also improving transparency in the sector.

The board will monitor the coffee value chain and ensure that all players follow the required standards.

It will also help promote Kenyan coffee internationally and support initiatives that increase production and quality.

In addition to reforms in the coffee sector, the president also signed the Miscellaneous Fees Amendment Act.

This law focuses on reviewing and adjusting certain government charges and service fees.

The aim is to streamline the collection of fees while making public services more efficient and easier for citizens to access.

Another important law signed by the president is the Meteorology Act. The new legislation is designed to strengthen the country’s weather forecasting and climate monitoring services.

With changing weather patterns and increasing climate challenges, accurate weather information has become more important than ever, especially for farmers and other sectors that depend heavily on climate conditions.

The Meteorology Act will provide a clearer legal framework for the operations of the Kenya Meteorological Department.

It will also support improvements in technology, data collection, and communication of weather information to the public.

Alongside these reforms, the government has also established the Railway Development Fund Board.

The board will oversee funds set aside for the development and expansion of railway infrastructure across the country.

Rail transport remains a key part of Kenya’s economic growth, helping move goods and passengers more efficiently.
