According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the footage provides a clear timeline of Jirongo’s final movements moments before the collision.
The DCI says the CCTV camera captured Jirongo’s vehicle entering a petrol station at exactly 2:18:40am while coming from the Nairobi direction.
Investigators noted that although he drove into the station, he did not stop to refuel.
Instead, the vehicle continued moving within the station compound, suggesting the stop was brief and not intended for fuel purchase.
At 2:19:10am, the footage shows Jirongo’s car pausing briefly at the petrol station’s exit.
Detectives believe this short stop was likely to allow him to check for oncoming traffic before rejoining the highway.
Just nine seconds later, at 2:19:19am, the vehicle made a right turn, heading back towards the Nairobi direction.
Tragically, events unfolded very fast after that. At 2:19:25am, only six seconds after the turn, the CCTV camera captured a public service vehicle (PSV) bus ramming into Jirongo’s car. The impact was severe and left little chance for any evasive action.
According to the DCI, the precise timestamps from the CCTV footage are critical in helping investigators understand how the crash happened.
The footage is being treated as key evidence and has already been secured as part of the ongoing probe.
Detectives are now analyzing the speed of the bus, the positioning of the vehicles, and the actions of the drivers involved.
The bus driver is currently under investigation, with authorities looking into possible dangerous driving.
Other evidence, including witness statements and vehicle inspection reports, is also being reviewed.
