ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has dismissed growing calls for accountability over the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, saying there will be “no accountability” regarding the tragic incident.

His comments have sparked concern as questions continue to surround the circumstances of Jirongo’s fatal accident.

Jirongo, aged 64, died on December 13 after his private vehicle collided head-on with a passenger bus ferrying travelers from Nairobi along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway, at Karai area.

The incident shocked political circles and left many wondering whether foul play could have been involved, especially given Jirongo’s prominence in business and politics.

Speaking publicly, Sifuna downplayed calls for investigations or accountability, insisting that the matter should not be politicized.

He argued that while Jirongo’s death is tragic, attempts to frame it as suspicious are baseless and could unnecessarily stir tensions.

According to him, the focus should remain on mourning the loss rather than seeking blame.

“We should respect the family and allow them to grieve,” Sifuna said, adding that the circumstances of the crash do not warrant further action beyond the standard procedures followed by traffic authorities.

His remarks appeared to contradict growing public sentiment demanding a thorough investigation into the events that led to the fatal collision.

Many leaders, family members, and members of the public have expressed disappointment at Sifuna’s stance, arguing that transparency is essential to ensure that justice is served and to prevent speculation about potential foul play.

Some have called on law enforcement agencies to release clear findings to reassure citizens.
