Rigathi Gachagua has launched a sharp attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of targeting his supporters during political events.

The former deputy president claimed that despite being free to campaign in his home area, he faces hostility whenever he holds public gatherings.

The accusations came just as President Ruto attended a church service in Othaya, Nyeri County, a stronghold of Gachagua.

The visit drew attention for the notable presence of Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who was seated prominently beside the president.

Governor Kahiga’s attendance is seen as a significant political signal. Previously a vocal supporter of Gachagua, Kahiga has lately maintained distance from the former deputy president’s camp.

His appearance alongside President Ruto is interpreted by observers as a clear shift in political alignment.

This is not Kahiga’s first public engagement with the president. He has previously joined Ruto during tours across Mount Kenya, fueling speculation about a growing alliance.

Political analysts say such moves could reshape loyalties in the region, especially with key leaders publicly recalculating their positions ahead of upcoming elections.

However, Moses Kuria, leader of the Chama Cha Kazi party, welcomed President Ruto to Nyeri.

Kuria shared images of himself with the president before the visit, signaling support despite his recent criticisms of the government.

His gesture drew praise from pro-government circles, adding to the narrative of shifting political loyalties.
