Wahome noted that Kenya is currently repaying large loans every month to international lenders such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, and the African Development Bank.
Speaking in public, Wahome said it is unfair for Nyoro to criticize the government without understanding the challenges it faces.
She pointed out that the previous administration left the country with expensive debts, including Eurobonds, which require regular payments and strict financial management.
“Ndindi Nyoro is criticizing decisions by this government, yet we found ourselves with Eurobonds and significant debts,” Wahome said.
She emphasized that the current government has inherited a heavy financial burden and is doing its best to handle it responsibly.
Wahome explained that debt repayment is a serious task, and it requires careful planning and discipline.
She said the government is committed to meeting its obligations to lenders while still trying to deliver services and support to citizens.
She added that the government needs time and space to work without constant criticism that may distract from its efforts.
“This government is repaying loans every month to the IMF, World Bank, African Development Bank, and others,” Wahome stated.
She said these repayments are part of the country’s financial responsibilities and cannot be ignored.
The Cabinet Secretary also suggested that critics should consider the broader context before making statements.
She said Kenya’s economy is under pressure due to rising debt, and the government must prioritize stability to avoid further financial risks.
Wahome argued that political leaders should support the government’s efforts to manage the economy instead of creating confusion.
Wahome’s remarks have sparked discussion among Kenyans, with some agreeing that the government needs time to address debt issues, while others believe that public leaders should be allowed to question decisions openly.
