Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has criticised a section of leaders who have been linking the death of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno to foul play.

Speaking during the requiem mass held at the AGC Church Karen on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Oburu said there was no evidence to support claims that Ng’eno’s death was suspicious.

He urged leaders to avoid making statements that could cause unnecessary tension and pain to the grieving family.

Ng’eno died in a helicopter crash that shocked the nation and claimed the lives of several other people.

Since the tragic incident, some political figures have publicly suggested that there could have been hidden motives behind the crash.

However, Oburu strongly rejected those claims, saying the MP died like any other Kenyan who faces life’s uncertainties.

“I know politicians who have very little agenda who want to read malice in the death of MP Johana Ng’eno; don’t do that.

He has died, like everyone else can die,” Oburu stated during the service.

He added that it was wrong for leaders to turn every tragedy into a political debate.

According to him, such behaviour shows a lack of seriousness and respect for the families involved. He said moments of grief should unite the country rather than divide it.

Oburu maintained that investigations into the crash should be left to the relevant authorities, who are trained to determine the cause of accidents.

He emphasised that spreading unverified claims only creates confusion and anxiety among the public.

The requiem mass brought together leaders from across the political divide, family members, and friends who gathered to honour Ng’eno’s life and service.

Many speakers described him as a dedicated leader who worked hard for his constituents in Emurua Dikirr.

Oburu used the occasion to call for maturity in political discourse. He urged politicians to focus on serving citizens instead of seeking attention through controversial remarks.

He said Kenya needs leaders who offer solutions and unite people, especially during difficult times.
